Modified and Customized Die-cast Cars

Last weekend some friends and I had some fun and fixed up some old beat up Hot Wheels, Matchbox and other no name brand die-cast cars.  I didn't think to do a before and after picture on these but here are some pictures of our results.  This is our first attempt so hopefully we will get better as we do more.

We first needed to disassemble the cars.  We did this by drilling out the rivets on the bottom of the cars.  After that we needed to remove the paint that was left on the metal body of the cars.  In order to get the paint off with little effort we soaked the metal parts of the cars in nail polish remover over night.  After that we cleaned up the cars and removed any remaining paint with a thumbtack.   When we were ready to paint we tried a few different things.  We used nail polish, airbrush, spray paint, paint sticks, and brush with model paint. These cars were so beat up they hardly had any paint on them before.

This one I used airbrush on and also painted with a brush.

This one was done with nail polish.

This one my daughter painted.

We soaked the cars in pill bottles.

This one was painted with nail polish.

This one we spray painted and the painted the seats with brush and model glue.

This is the next batch of cars we're going to try.

This is a cheap project that's a lot of fun to do.  The next blog post will have before and after photos.
I'm also exploring selling some of the older more valuable Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars so keep an on on my online store.  www.hallstoybox.com
